I was laid off back in July and after much reflection - and more rejections from job applications than I can even count - I’ve decided the time is right to jump into a more meaningful career path. I came across a career coach who I think could really help, but then she quoted me $345 per 45 minute session, which seemed VERY high. Can anyone tell me what the going rate is for a career coach? was that quote inflated, or are my expectations completely out of touch?!

If I get fired while on OPT without getting my H1-B stamped, is it useless or can it be used in future for some other job?

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Understanding that the degreed person committed to school and finished, yet that doesn't diminish what the not degreed has committed to and accomplished in their careers. This has to stop!
