In interviews, be honest but brief. Explain the situation objectively: you made a mistake, learned from it, and took steps to improve. Emphasize your long, otherwise solid track record. It’s natural to feel conflicted, but use this as a learning experience to grow and move forward.

I wouldn't offer that to new employers. Your old employer is only allowed to say if you are eligible for rehire or not. Anything more than that could open them to defamation and loss of income lawsuits. If asked why you left your previous job "It was just time to part ways and I am looking for a more challenging opportunity." Then keep going by talking about why you are interested in their particular company/unit/specialty
