I was recently promoted to a new position at my company. I'm so excited to be taking on this new challenge, but it's not going as well as I had hoped.

I've been given a lot of responsibilities, which is great. But I don't feel like any of them are being prioritized or delegated appropriately. I'm getting a lot of pressure from my manager, who is quite demanding and doesn't seem to understand that I need time to get things done and learn new skills.

Take a list to your manager of all your tasks and ask them to help you prioritize them. That's the only way I've been able to explain to my manager sometimes how much I have on my plate (and get some guidance). To be fair, they're probably not keeping a list of your tasks in addition to their own tasks (which should be viewed as a good thing hopefully, it means they're trusting you and not micromanaging) but the flip side of that is that it can be easy for them to overlook or underestimate all that you have on your plate.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a tough time in your new position. My advice would be to talk to your manager about your concerns. Explain that you need time to learn the new skills and get things done properly. Ask for help in prioritizing and delegating your responsibilities. Hopefully, this will help you to feel more supported and productive in your new role.

Reading what you explain to us seems to be the entrance to a disaster in the future, it is difficult when we are promoted but they do not understand that we are not fully prepared, and the adaptation processes take time.

This is exactly what happened to me, my best technique to solve this was to sit down with my manager and talk about the priorities in the assigned tasks, during this process I explained to him that I did not have strong knowledge of certain things and that way the time margins and the workload were more equitable.

It is something that usually happens and this type of situation is the fault of your immediate boss, the best thing you can do is talk directly to him because everything you do wrong has a direct impact on him, so if he wants to look good it's up to you.

Can anyone give me their honest opinion on working at Eli Lilly, the Indy site? I have a few coworkers that have worked there in the past but no one recently. I’m currently being recruited pretty seriously for a in-vivo technician position in the auto-immune team, but I already have a job lined up at Envigo as a small animal sx tech. Salaries would be comparable (Lilly would most likely be a little more with bonuses), but if the culture sucks, I’d hate to burn a bridge with Envigo.

Unemployed all year. My only two interviews so far fell through. Job openings are sparse but I can’t relocate. No UI. No car, so I have to walk. Doc review isn’t biting, gig work isn’t biting, networking isn’t pulling through, pro bono work isn’t paying off and I can’t find paying clients to take on solo. I’ve got 2 months before I’m on the street, no family or friends to help. I’ve already sold almost all my stuff. I’m a wash-up that should have never graduated or been barred. How do I fix me?

Is there a recommended path here? Long one, finished in the comments.

So I make around 35% below market for my titled role. My employer used “startup” as the reason when I was hired, but they’ve finally stopped using that excuse. I was fine with it, because I was promised a promotion within 12 months due to scope change. I’ve now been promoted twice, but in responsibility only. My boss said it’ll be another 18-24 months until my director promo is approved and goes into effect. More in comments
