I will be joining big law (corporate) in September as a 1st year associate. Company has unlimited PTO and I would like to take a few days off in December between Christmas and new year and work remote that first week in January. When and how is the best time to approach the subject with my firm? On one hand I want to ask early as I feel this is right and allows people planning but it come off as I feel entitled and don’t want to work. Or ask once there and worked my ass off for a while

Depends on the firm. I’d ask an associate you trust in your group. Sometimes varies by PG.

Everything usually is quiet around that time (so you’re good). I would as AA1 mentioned find someone you trust to talk to, and then come October/ November (depends) email and include “Please let me know if there are any concerns.” Then email again closer to December, you can mention you’ve spoken to others about your assignments/ handled it one on one, and/or mention how accessible you’ll be in terms of internet access. PTO is normal and mental health is paramount so as long as you give advanced notice and send gentle reminders, you’re good!

We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up. Should she get certifications to give her a shot at adtech?Too late?

Ive been practicing in TX for 2-3 years at a big law firm doing mostly bankruptcy work (and some trial) and looking to clerk at a bankruptcy court in SDNY/DDE/EDVA (I am well aware of how great the SDTX judges are but I am set on leaving Texas). Anyone familiar with how many apps these judges normally get or what makes candidates stand out? Are these judges generally not interested in someone who has practiced in a different market?

Interviewed with Chicago court 2 weeks ago; they decide mid-August. Interviewed with DC judge last week; hear from him by this Friday. Chicago said if I need an answer before August, they'd try to make a decision about me sooner.
Should I ask Chicago for an answer? Or should I wait until there's an offer from DC judge? Maybe seems better to withdraw before an offer is made rather than ask for time to think about it/turn down DC? What's proper etiquette?
