Hillary or Trump? And why?
All Big 4 Managers need to read this:
He is not your friend if he asks you to stick your neck out and reputation out to vouch for him after he committed fraud. Simple answer is to just tell him to submit his resume to their website and see what happens.
It was enough to be shown the door. Leave the door shut. If he wants to open it he needs to do the work to try and unlock it. Not you.
I've never understood people that play around with expenses. How much could you possibly benefit? $1000?? Is that worth a black mark on your record anywhere?
He clearly fudged the numbers if he got fired for it.
We had a manager leave the firm once and after he left it was discovered that he did a similar thing (ran personal expenses through corporate amex). He was a partner track manager and literally a week or two later he realized he made a mistake and told pwc he wanted to come back. We did hire him back but his promotion to director was delayed a year because of the expenses and it was then universally known that leadership didn’t trust him. He eventually left anyway a few years later once he figured that distrust would cost him the partnership.
Did he use thebamex for expenses and submitted them for reimbursement?
Agree with EY4. Doubt he would have been let go for petty theft. If he wants your help and you put your name on the line, at least he should come clean and admit what he did to you so you have all the facts first. Why should you stick your neck out blind? Friends do not ask each other to do that or he is no friend. He should have tried to build a bridge back on his own.
It is possible to make a mistake when some personal expense is run through corporate card. Very common with Uber as many times the corporate card gets applied for personal use Uber. The policy is to pay those expenses using your finances and not run through the expense codes. If someone is swiping for personal use and charging to expense codes than it is a fraud.
Absolutely
What exactly did he do with the expenses? Was it running personal expenses through a code?
Just to add to this, why would he want to come back if he is doing great and a candidate for senior manager? Best he can get is manager position at this point and need to build cred again. This really smells 😵🤢
Job at another Big 4 with more pay and he is now a manager as well ( I hope he learned from his mistake) and recently has asked me to help him get his job back at Deloitte. He is a high performer but wouldn’t he be a “non-rehireable?” Due to what happened? . He told me he misses Deloitte. I think he has a great future at his current firm as they are talking about early promotion for Senior manager. What do I do? I don’t want to be the guy to say “dude you F up and can’t come back to Deloitte "
EY4 is right. This is his doing, and his responsibility to reach out to the firm to try to reconcile. You were not involved in his dismissal, nor should you have been, and it would be foolish to try to vouch for him.
What do you mean fired for expenses? Did he just type it in incorrectly? I don’t see why he got fired for that or did he fudge the numbers ?
I think external auditor OP needs to clarify because it’s very possible that the Corp card was connected to Uber for business travel and the person accidentally forgot to change it for a personal Uber. If that’s the case I dnt think that would be a big deal if it’s something explainable that was fixed
I didn’t ask him in detail but he told me he did expense personal stuff to different charge codes. I don’t know what it was exactly or how much. I figured that’s between him and the firm
It sounds like you don’t have all the facts. If you offer to refer him through the referral system for an open position, you don’t make the hire decision. Your hands are clean. I say just let local leadership make the call.
As a former expense auditor who saw people being fired every day for expenses, they should be marked as ‘do not rehire’ in their HR file. Occasionally it does happen if HR doesn’t check, but once they apply for another corporate card they will be declined (especially if they didn’t pay their personal balance and it went to write-off). Traveling without a corporate card would be a pain and cause you to get consistently audited. Honestly, it’s not worth trying to come back. Tell them they made the decision when they did the acts to get fired. Trust, it’s takes A LOT to get fired for expenses.
