Given you’ve been doing programmatic tv, paid search may be your closest tie in. It’s all programmatic to some degree, just a difference of where and what you buy. Can you shadow a colleague?
I’m sorry but I’m laughing at @DAD1’s supposed knowledge of the programmatic landscape. MediaMath and Quantcast aren’t even trading desks, the former is a DSP and the latter essentially operates as an ad network.
Affiperf, Cadreon, and Xaxis are really the only trading desks that are left. I hear Xaxis doesn’t do a lot of self service though, and Amnet anywhere but NY is basically non existent. You could also try one of the Omnicom agencies where they do more self service programmatic but no longer operate as a stand alone trading desk (accuen is basically dead).
You will want to do self service so you get hands on experience in the DSPs. Working with managed tag partners will not teach you a lot.
If Xaxis are mostly booking managed service, then why book through them at all?
What is the usefulness of programmatic tv in the states? In AUS it's mostly a waste of everyones time
@sf1 the closest to programmatic TV is search?!? What planet are you on?!?
SEO u can learn on your own. Paid social, u can play around with business manager on your personal account once u make a business page. You have to get creative with these things. Search up "academy for ads"
We fully train you. If you are looking, reach out to Resolution Media. Kathleen Norris Ramos is the recruiter for the West Coast.
Not if you’re willing to basically start over. Your existing experience should get you an entry/junior level position. Anything else could be challenging, given your lack of direct experience.
I disagree with the above. If you've bought programmatic TV, the closest discipline is programmatic digital - e.g. try to get a job in a trading desk, if you know a bit of code - maybe look into dynamic creatives. Based on your experience, you wouldn't even be a junior. And then if you want to switch, it's much more easily done once you're part of a larger network.
Yes, learning by yourself helps, especially if you don't have the basics nailed. But if you do... Well, then anything is possible. People I work with have made all sorts of cross channel moves: affiliates -> PPC -> client services, SEO -> programmatic, programmatic -> social...
So in short: try to get into a programmatic trading desk, brush up on ALL digital channels - the principles, not necessarily the implementation, and then switch to wherever you want. Or bypass step 1 altogether.
@digital account director 1 -- any trading desks u reco to get everything outta the company and learn programmatic 360°? NYC preferably. I heard Media Math and Trade Desk r the best..
@OP Media math is well known, also look into amnet and quantcast. Amnet is part of the Dentsu Aegis Network so basically your gateway to iProspect, Merkle, Carat, Vizeum, etc. Quantcast has strong ties with a number of other agencies. I'm from DAN so obvs biased towards amnet, but have a look at any opportunities you can find :)
@VP1 - correct, I lashed DSPs into my answer as well, as having them on your CV can help you get a job in programmatic area. And amnet is far from non existent in NY as well as other markets, and the question was about NY so...
