Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?

I think you have to want to move, money isn’t going to make up for being away from family.

No plausible salary offer could ever get me to move to 2021 San Francisco.
More….money?
Seriously there is absolutely no way to answer this without knowing more information about you. What are you making now? Which stage of your career are you at? Are your parents OK healthwise, your sibling? Are you growing tired of New York? Will extra money make up for loss of time with your family?
Honest answer: don’t move. NY is big enough to give you more challenging opportunities. If you want to try somewhere else out, do a 3 month course out there or something like that. Moving across the country for work you’re rolling the dice on ending up long distance long-term from what sounds like a really supportive and loving family. That can impact your life a lot more than any bottom line. There’s no shortage of money in NY.

As someone who moved cross country for a new job and barely gets to see their aging parents, it’s a no for me

Idk, maybe add about 20k on top of what your new salary would be if you got a new job in nyc for cost of living adjustment, then add another 10k to pay for flights back home every other month.
So if you currently make 150, taking a new job in nyc you’d probably get 180, so I’d ask for 210 in SF.

You lost me at “happy in NYC.”

If I'm happy where I am, I'm not moving. Unless it's a stupid amount of money like 150k+ over the going market rate. Which doesn't happen in advertising.
It happens in fin tech though. An ACD could easily clear 300k with stock.
Is it going to change your life for the better?

I am happy in NYC with my family here. To move to SF, right now, maybe for 2.5X salary I’d go.
I love NYC. But why so much SF hate??? 🙄
Very rainy? It hasn’t rained here in like 7 months. Very firey, maybe
The advice above is all good. You can’t make this decision based on money. Yes, you will get a higher salary. But housing and food and transportation are also very expensive. And, yes, brand-side is more secure than agency-side. But if you’re bored now, imagine working on one brand for five, ten, fifteen years. Plus, you will be far from your family and in a different time zone. During COVID.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
PS: I’ve moved to california before, early in my career to advance it. A lot of people I know who move, eventually come back for family and it sounds like you value family. SF salaries are high but the cost of living surpasses NYC.
There’s no amount that could get me to move that far again. I lost a family member and I cherish the memories I can still make with the ones I have left. It’s only worth it if it’s always been your dream to live in SF. ❤️
I can confirm that California is amazing and the Bay Area is great. Hate me for it but we loved it. Been two years away and miss it. We did not live in the city (Danville) and it was fabulous. Ping me if you have questions. Our moms were in the Midwest and we had great times going back but also bringing them to Cali. The distance wasn’t an issue. Saw them more when we lived in Cali than now when we live in Nash.
