If you are struggling at work because of ADHD - don't quit! I'm a former Accommodation Program Manager at Amazon and so many professionals don't realize that they can get reasonable accommodations to make their work more manageable.

Yes, it requires disclosure but there are safe ways to navigate the process. Especially if your performance is dipping, accommodations can actually help protect your job and give you a fair chance.

AMA about accommodations for ADHD at work - happy to help.

Hello- I don’t work for web services, but I do work a upper level position. I am curious about what accommodations I could receive for ADHD, and was actually close to quitting. Please let me know how to better communicate.

What is your most effective accommodation? Most requested?

I don’t even know where to start with accommodations for adhd at work. Beyond environment type requests, what types of accommodations have you seen offered or used?

Also, I’ve avoided asking for anything that I think would be an imposition for my employer. It sucks but I’m just too concerned about how it might impact my career, even if that’s not supposed to happen.

I love this tip and thank you for sharing. I would be curious to know what kind of accommodations you were able to get at your job. I have found there aren't really as many as there should be for ADHD. Curious about what other companies do.

For those who were diagnosed as an adult can you provide some insight into how you were able to obtain a diagnosis. I went to my primary care dr who referred me to another dr who specialized in mental health. He asked me about 5 questions before telling me I should see a neuropsychologist for an official assessment. The referral he gave me is super pricey and apparently isn’t covered by insurance. Is that normal?

Stimulants and sweating! I’m going back to the office and never used them while in the office, I don’t want to look or be sweaty haha any advice? I also don’t want to look weird drinking 6L of water as I do in person

Just restarted stimulants and already I'm dealing with twitches again. Does anyone else get these? No type of pain or anything just every once and a while my body will twitch strongly. Afterward I feel normal, but it's a bit annoying, and I can't control it at all which is a little disconcerting. Don't remember this from when I took stimulants as a kid, but it's been a while.

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

I work in sales as a coordinator and do a bunch of paperwork with customers online. I LOVE PEOPLE but dread going to work everyday (wfh 3x a week) because the environment is toxic. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

So today was my first day on a stimulant (diagnosed as an adult), and everyone says its suppose to feel like *boom* magic, or normal (?) , I guess. Knowing that is figurative, what should I actually be expecting? I feel mostly the same, I think, though I came in and actually did started my work today. But I mean, somedays I do that...I just don't want to psyche myself out if I'm expecting too much. Or pscyhe myself in if I actually might not be experiencing what I should.
