Yes you can file for unemployment. Whether it is enough to meet your needs or not completely depends on you. It will be less than you make now for sure.
Why did u get fired OP?
😭😭😭 I think you can.
It may depend on your state but you should be able to get unemployment. It’s not much so maybe not enough to cover much
But does it show up if employers do a background check.
How would one go about filing for unemployment and how long does it last?
It's called "Umemployment benefits" not "unemployment but we want to know why you are unemployed" benefits. This is why you will see everyone from a person who just had bad luck to someone that got fired for drugs /crimes committed in the unemployment line.
Your state will pay out unemployment and they have specific requirements and will make a determination on how much and for how long. Just google it
You’ll land on your feet coming out of consulting OP. What happened?
Sadly, far more doors open re: Federal/ State benefits when you get fire vs. resign.
Op - while I get fb is a good source of information for some of the more nuanced questions, your question of “how does one go about filing and how long does it last” is a tad lazy
You’ll be fine. It’s extremely rare for employers to contest unemployment claims. When I was unemployed I think I got close to 400 bucks a week in dc. Also employers basically never tell background check people why someone left the firm because they don’t want to get sued. They just confirm dates. When you get a security clearance then thE investigators usually ask more detailed reasons as to why you were let go
