Were you terminated without cause? Or with cause?
Without cause you're entitled to unemployment. With cause means you lost your job at your own fault and NOT entitled to unemployment.
It's usually rare for companies to fire for cause (it opens them up to getting counter sued if they're wrong) unless it was really serious. Like embezzlement, drug related, etc.. but even then the company has to be able to proof it, which is hard. Hence why most people get fired without cause.
Rising Star
Not if you are fired for cause. Do everything you can to get the employer to agree that it was a layoff before you leave or sign anything. Otherwise, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
Pro
Apply for benefits regardless. If you were fired for rule breaking or behavior, you may be SOL, but many states are at will and you do not have to be fired for cause.
Getting laid off is without cause. You should get unemployment.

Seems like OP said they were fired and it was NOT a layoff.
If you were fired for performance you might be able to. You need to ask your former company if they will support you. Ask your HR contact if they will make you eligible.
