I’m not sure compulsion is the right word when referencing a sick child or parent. Or if you are immigrant. None of these are compulsions.
Possibly, but it sort of muddles the point. I don’t know OP, but inability to communicate accurately would be a reason to not move forward or be critical of someone. If this is not OPs first language, they are likely far smarter than I am as I can’t speak any second language to the level that OP is speaking English. That being said, in a realistic world, communication is very important and if that’s a struggle that could be a reason, just as much as having a sick kid or parent.
Definitely, saw something like that in industry when my coworker became pregnant. Managers were talking badly about her because it was a big inconvenience for them. Your employer is not your friend. Don’t share too much of personal things.
I think that depends on your boss. Im very open with mine and they are very receptive and help me manage issues in my life and work. Even coming over to talk things over with me after work. Im sorry that it happend to you that way but I think its an isolated thing
Its not just the bosses.. its the coworkers too.. some of their policies are just policies on the paper.. personnels running the business have the final say!
Very true. One of the strongest managers I knew got skipped for promotion. They worked a lot and did a great job but they talked about their hobby a lot at work. I overheard leadership making fun of it.
Damn that’s kind of cruel. Who cares if they have a hobby you don’t like if they are good at their job?
OP seems to assume what happened in one instance isn’t anecdotal but pervasive
Pretty pervasive. They just don’t say it out loud.
