In my experience, the big 4 folks were generally more competent and motivated. Some of the people at the large regional I was at previously had obvious inferiority complexes. Better benefits, training, and resources at big 4 as well. I don't think we worked much more at big 4.
The regional firm bragged about WLB and how they could leave the office at 2:00 PM on Fridays because they worked an extra 30 minutes the prior 4 days.
Usually, bigger firms have bigger resources. That usually means better training, more QC, more money for employee satisfaction but also more workload to justify all those expenses.
Worked at a Big 4 for five years. The hours are busier and the overall atmosphere is more competitive. Better benefits and bonuses, obviously. Never made a lot of friends over there, though.
Nice question. Actually, it was tough than I imagined. I thought it would be a smooth transition since I have plenty of experience. But the workload was double so I found it extra hard.
