I have recently cleared the loop at Google for a GCP Cloud Security Consultant role in India.
YoE - 10. Not sure about the job level yet. The recruiter has just sent me an "Offer review packet" spreadsheet to fill with salary expectations.
My two best current offers are:
- Prod sec engineering lead at an Eyecare giant - 57 LPA + 3.5 L joining bonus
- Lead sec engineer at a series D profitable HR tech startup - 60 LPA + 40 L ESOP vested over 4 years
How much should I ask for at Google ?

Have you had a conversation with them to set and manage expectations and ways of working together? Could you pitch a ‘hi Manager - Would love to add an hour to talk through ways of working, understand expectations and review priorities to align and advance projects I am leading. Can you let me know when works on Monday/Tuesday/Wed for you to do this?’ Then use the time to talk about comms prefs and what input you need, be curious to learn what they mean about demonstrating value - do they mean a certain type of marketing deck for your work, more regular update meetings etc., working with stakeholders you are not yet etc.? And send follow up notes on what you agreed
Two months can still be kind of early to iron out all the wrinkles. Definitely agree that setting up a meeting and going over should hopefully help that. From that hopefully something good, but if nothing else you’ll at least know where the other manager is coming from, i.e. just saying generic things to brush you off.
There had to have been something that happened for your manager to say those things to you, if not then you see what a bad manager does and how not to interact with people. I agree that you should schedule a time for a meeting and ask them why they said what they did and what their expectations of a member of leadership should being doing. If and when you do this be prepared to hear things you may not like or agree with but take notes and ask yourself if you can do what is being stated.
