I’m 27, came from a very non target and non trad background. Lateraled to a brand new no name investment bank at the beginning of the year so I could do m&a (was in muni / DCM before), sometimes I feel like I screwed myself working in the LMM doing $10-200M EV transactions but at the same time I’m on track to make $600k next year.

Should I even bother with the buyside / getting an MBA?

Anyone trade stocks on the side? Not at a day trading level, but not buy-and-hold either...more like aim to hold 5-10 stocks at a time for 1-2 months and earn a decent short-term profit (10-15%).

I'm working on skills to reposition myself from a branch of tech where certifications are mandatory and required to even interview into DevOps or software development. I'm currently taking some online classes in Jenkins, docker, python. I've found a few certifications you can test for. I'd love to be able to go into a mid level position vs Jr in the next few years. A) Are these types of certs helpful or useless? B) what skills differentiate Jr and mid level positions?

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. Edward Jones advisor with 30 million AUM and roughly 250k gross production. Been there for almost 4 years. Got an offer at Merrill Lynch to take over a 100 million dollar retirement transition plan in 5 years, or to join a 5 person Merrill Lynch team that manages a lot.

Pros to EJ: Have my own office, a year or two away from partnership, great office setting and client satisfaction.
