You are doing much better than I was doing at 28. The best thing you can do is keep your head up and keep grinding. $70k is still very respectful and know that you’ll make it to six figures in due time.
Thanks friends
I started in consulting 7 years ago, aged 30, as an analyst / grad. I didn’t get promoted for 3 years and my salary stayed at ~$55k for those years (until age 33). I had no savings and could barely afford to put a roof over my head.
I’m now on $230+
Be patient. You’re in a better position than most. And in a few years you’ll be killing it
Also, when I was stuck at my first firm I tried for hundreds of jobs and no one would give me an opportunity be used of my level and hadn’t shown progress. I was depressed and deflated.
Eventually, after a long slog, I actually got a referral to the second company from someone I’d been chatting to the coffee shop near me for months. I told them what I do, the jobs I was going for (my husband was even willing to quit his job and move way out regional for me to get a chance at a job which I ended up not getting final stage because the ceo didn’t think I had enough experience), and he was like “what but you’re amazing - give me your cv I’ll give it someone at firm x”. He was retired and I didn’t know he worked in the same industry.
The rest is history.
Long story, but the moral is that rejection happens often, just believe in yourself, persevere, continue invest in developing skills, and find people who see your value
At 28 i had just graduated from a master’s program and was a second year consulting analyst at a big4 making $67k base. Now i am 37, work for another consulting firm and my base almost quadrupled. All it took was getting my mba and putting in hard effort for several yeara
Thank you, Manager1. I found and online MBA program that costs <$20k. I was thinking about enrolling in that while I work!
I know you’re American but here in Europe I make 56k and can live comfortably. I earn more than most my friends, I make more than my dad who’s a nurse for 30 years. I could never imagine 56k not being enough, I can save money, go on holiday etc. Just move here lol
Hahahaha I might have to. What country do you live in out of curiosity ?

I didn't break 100k til after 30. I was in industry til about 29 and totally hated it, finally had a chance to join the consulting side and I'd never go back. Don't worry about what other people are doing. Focus on the career that you will enjoy doing, the steps to go get to that level (interviewing, degrees, certifications, etc) and how you can go and make it happen. First, you must figure out what it is you want to do for your career.
Thank u friends - appreciate this.
If you are in technology and have interest in cloud you should start getting some cloud certifications. There are a lot of great opportunities outside
Thank you, Amazon 1. I should look into that. I work in software implementation, so I suspect there is some cross over 😅

Almost everyone in this app including me do care about how much we make every year. I really can hear you. Start giving interviews, make mistakes it’s okay, but eventually switch jobs. There are a lot of people who has no clue of what they are doing earning 3 times of what you are getting now. You will get there soon 👍🏻 All you need is to start applying for jobs at your own pace. All the best
Thank you, consultant 2. Maybe I’m one job away from things taking off. Numbers game. Just gotta keep fishing… and be my best.. it will all come together, one day. Just not today!
