I'm approached by the AP recruiter and in the final interview process for an SVP role (digital practice).
Already have two other offers (Strategy @ Walmart, 300K TC, and Marketing@ Amazon, 220K TC). 10 YOE
1. Will AP's SVP TC be higher than $300K? What's the breakdown?
2. Would you choose AP over Strategy @ Walmart or Marketing @ Amazon?
3. How difficult is it for new parents? I still want to spend time with my newborn.

Why not Houston? Houston is closer to San Antonio? Houston is a big market so it wouldn’t affect you. Austin most likely have super small offices, so I can see how it could negatively affect you by being in a small office (networking, training, etc)
But you will win Financially because of the no state tax. Your bi weekly check as a first year is about 750 dollars more in Texas then NYC. That’s 1500 a month more in your pocket.
Thanks A1 and A4. I agree that looking for a suburb between the two would be the way to go.
Do you think I could try me arrange a WFH arrangement at my NYC office?
There are plenty of wildly successful biglaw lawyers in places other than New York. Location matters much less than your performance. Stellar assignments finds stellar talent. Move to TX, be stellar and change your mindset about places other than NY. Your career will be just fine.
Thanks man.
I am a biglaw lawyer married to an academic (STEM if that’s helpful information). My spouse is tenure track and we ended up in a metropolitan city with a biglaw market. In hindsight we are 110% glad we picked a university with biglaw because my spouse is disillusioned by the ivory tower, realizing the golden age of the ivory tower has passed and he/she just has a job that pays 1/3 of the what he/she could command in the market. In fact several tenured colleagues have recently left for industry and other colleagues cannot afford to even purchase housing (although that doesn’t seem to be a big problem in San Antonio). We are mostly holding on because tenure is the promised land. DM if you want to talk.

Can your wife get another job in NYC?
I mean of course that would be ideal for both of us, as we live in the city now. But life is as life does.

& to add to all of this, you can still work on NY deals even if you are located in TX. This won’t even be a blip on your career trajectory.
I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some perspective on this. I don’t mind ending up at a CA in-house gig. And it would certainly be nice to start building a real home life in the burbs.

Respect for accommodating your wife’s career; is she c-suite at USSA or something? Curious about why SA. Grab a margarita at SoLuna when you make the move!

It’s USAA. Going to trinity or UTSA OP?
