I’m a solo right now at a private company based out of the northeast. Company is headquartered outside the US. Revenue for our region is mid 9 figures. Considering adding a counsel with 5-7 YOE for a general role, including handling a little of everything (reviewing contracts, IP, real estate, employment, marketing, etc). I’ll be supervising but my role is expanding a bit so will need to be independent. There’s no equity and I’m trying to get a sense of the fair cash comp for this.

Industry is F&B. Would see this a good position for someone looking to get general in house experience.

like

For 5-7 YOE I’d say $200-250k base, 15-25% bonus.

like

Not for a small company like that. Id say max 200k with 15% bonus

If it’s remote, I’ll take the job lol

Check out the MLA comp guide. Will give you a decent range. $225 sounds about right.

Thanks.

Based on the Gross salary offered I have calculated the in hand salary per month would be around 152000 considering 150000 in 80C, 50000 in NPS and 200000 deductions due to home loan interest. Total tax liability is around 400000. Any other options do I have to save tax further (other than HRA, LTA)? Thanks in advance.

Anyone else in the “here for a good time not a long time” club? This job gets a lot more tolerable when you don’t actually need it (no intention to make partner, no loans, etc.). I generally do good work, but I’m happy being a B associate, I don’t dwell on small mistakes or what partners think of me, I take my vacations and never overwork myself to “look good”. All this to say, you don’t need to be an A+ associate to stay employed. Try being a B associate, it’s a lot more fun.

What law firm is your favorite for run of the mill employment issues in the US and internationally (India, Australia, UK, Germany, etc.). NFW- I just had a good laugh.
