I’ve been hosting one of these calls for the last 4-5 weeks and every week someone else privately messages me saying they’ve had a crappy week and this call lifts their spirits a bit even when they don’t talk during the call.
I’ve tried to add a couple new people each week so it’s never been the same group twice.
I've been a part of one since March. Its been a godsend for several reasons:
Hilarious moments witnessing peoples home lives.
Its in the morning so you generally get peoples attention better.
You get to network a bit and take on additional work from others and/or discuss challenges in the work going on.
Honestly its kept me sane. But yeah. They also can get a bit draining.
Do what you feel! In this past months I learn to respect my feelings.
Just DO WHAT YOU FEEL.
Wanna take a break? Your real friends will understand.
Want to go back on meetings? Your real friends will welcome you with joy.
I’ve been willing to host people at my apartment, as long as I know that they have taken social distancing about as seriously as me.
So over the last 2 months or so I’ve had people over 3-4 times. Usually just a handful of people, 6-10 max. I feel like that’s reasonable.
Also, I’m in Chicago, which was significantly more strict in terms of lockdowns back in March-June, and is just starting to open up more now. Probably wouldn’t feel the same if I was in Florida Or Texas

I do weekly Zooms with my beer tasting group. They are fun/not draining. And don't you get enough of work people during the week?
What Zoom chats? One was enough for me. Reminds me of “foamy” - up in the air reference. If you aren’t happy, just stop doing them.
If it feels forced it’s not worth it. Invest energy in other ways
