I'm in a position where I'm late 40's with a good amount of savings ($2+million), but all is basically in a mix of IRA and 401K (about half in ROTH accounts). I will have access to 3 pensions at age 55 to supplement. I'm planning to reduce my COA now through downsizing my home so plan is to have $0 debt by 55 as well. Are there downsides to taking SEPP so early other than the need to continue payments until 59.5? I'm looking at options to retire at 50 or 55.

I spent years in industry before consulting. So I have an industry pension and two from consulting (big 4). They won't replace my income, but a very nice buffer to pay the property taxes or health insurance in retirement.

Start doing mega/backdoor rothira once your 401k employer match is funded. You can freely take out the principal after 5 years of rollover to rothira. Age doesn't matter.

As long as the total draw from the total portfolio is safe (actually safe), and you actually want to retire irrevocably, and getting money out of pretax is correct, tax planning wise, than SEPP is probably not an awful idea.

How much taxable do you have? How much total expense will you have to support from the portfolio before and after these pensions? Are the pensi

Can you get more from your pensions by waiting?

Are the pensions COLAed?

Genuinely curious: how often do you feel truly happy/enthusiastic in your daily life? What exactly makes you happy? I hesitate to self diagnose w “high functioning depression” but I have all the hallmarks. I have no interest in previous hobbies; picked up new ones & got bored very quickly; and though I’m still productive in my job, have friends/a SO—I don’t remember truly feeling happy/excited in a long time. I met therapists who asked me if I think others feel happy/excited all the time(cont

Hi folks.

I wanted to know if HashedIn provides permanent WFH. Atleast for senior employees.

During my HR discussion, HR told me that senior employees like you (SE III) don't have to come to office.

I want to know if it's true or not.

Also please let me know what is the notice period in HashedIn.

I’ve been with my current company for a little over 5 years now and since the start of the pandemic have been WFH. I absolutely love WFH and have always wanted a position in which I could WFH. There is talk of bringing everyone back to the office full time and that’s not what I would like to happen. I’ve been searching for a new position in which it would be a remote role. My current company also said I am maxed out in term of what they are willing to pay salary wise.

Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?

I was once at a dinner with a second year analyst, consultant, and partner, and the analyst said he planned on retiring by 30 and the partner and consultant laughed. Little did they know, the analyst owned his own home and rented all the rooms out so he payed no rent, never ate out, only grocery shopped, and very very rarely bought anything new. He saved most of his income, and was perfectly content with just his video games. That man was serious about not being stuck working forever.
