If I were in a secondary market looking for talent, I’d appreciate the heads-up from people who are looking to relocate. As long as OP is transparent from the beginning with their intentions and plans to relocate, I would consider that more savvy than deceitful. I’ve recruited in small markets before, and to land someone from NYC would be pretty great. To have that person help me land them would be even better.
Update: I changed my location to Minneapolis and have been reached out to by 3 recruiters from different agencies since! It was the right decision.
Definitely update your location so that you come up in recruiter searches.
GD1 agencies in smaller markets pay for relo more often than you might think, especially for NYC talent. That even applies to more junior roles. It’s not at all unheard of to get a $2500 moving allowance even at a junior level
I'd update it. There's slim odds they'll pay for relocation.
Yup. Update for sure.
Okay, cool. I want to do whatever makes me most visible to recruiters and potential hirers in Minneapolis, so that makes sense. Thanks!
Do NOT update! If we find out you've lied about where you are, you will be seen as deceitful and not get the job. Gross.
GD1 you don't know that. Lots of places won't pay unless you're Sr+, true, but you never know.
That’s great OP! Good luck and keep us posted!
