Paternity leave is not paid one ?
My thoughts exactly. Are the 16 weeks unpaid?
I feel you...I went through it and hated it, specially the time and financial losses
Have you considered spreading out the 16 weeks as opposed to taking all 16 at once? It’s not ideal, I know, but it would allow you to have some time at home while still bringing that income home. Also definitely should discuss this with your wife, communication is key, even if it’s uncomfortable communication.
Fwiw babies are way more fun at like 10 months when they are moving around and interacting with things more intentionally. My youngest is there now.
Also, probably not what you want to hear but you are very lucky - most people get two weeks at the most and you are getting nearly four months. Pace yourself, figure out how to get your work done but be home for dinner/play/bedtime rituals, and you can make it work just like everyone else. I'd prefer to not need to work too.
Fair enough. If the policy allowed him to take up to 16 weeks off I don't follow why his wife would have outright quit when in almost all circumstances she could have at a minimum been on unpaid leave most/all of that time. Once the initial leave was granted does he have any obligation to update his employer about his wife's employment status?
I wish I even had the option to work part time
I'm sorry, it's such a tough spot to be in. And we are "lucky" compared to most Americans. Ha! Our leave policies are the worst among first world countries.
You should be more concerned about your wife putting this in front of you at this moment. There seems to be a lack of communication. Couldn’t she have quit later? I’m sure if you talked about it this came forward earlier
Not sure what firm, but EY only requires that she work with no specified amount. Have her get a very part time job.
