Can anyone offer advice who is a head of product/ product leader for what impresses them the most from interview candidates and possibly how I might differentiate myself?

Hey! I'm just about to start doing some freelance work for a NYC based boutique design studio, and I need to give a hiring manager my hourly rate to give his customers. I am new to UI/UX design. I’m a designer in the planning/landscape architecture dept. of a CE firm. Extremely frustrated that after 4+ years and multiple asks, I’m not getting the in-field construction experience I’ve asked for. I know that my designs could be better if I could see how things are actually built but I get slapped in the face with “I need you in the office designing/drafting” or “there’s no budget to have you go out” and then sends an intern to inspect instead. I’m 5 yrs out of college. Any advice?

Has anyone made the transition from non-profit and small firm practice to federal government, big law, in-house? I’m a special education parent attorney at a small firm and I’ve spent my legal career in the education and juvenile areas of the law working for 2 non-profits before ending up at the firm.
