You’re just going to be tired, I’m sorry. Probably for the next 5 years straight… I took naps most days from like 5-6pm when I was pregnant because I had an excuse.
On the travel, I traveled until 32 weeks and it was totally fine.
I accepted the risk and had 2-3 cups a day in my first trimester and slowly decreased from there. Eventually, I was able to replace coffee with Diet Coke, tea, or even sometimes decaf. Have you read Expecting Better? I don’t co-sign everything in the book, but the chapter on caffeine was helpful for me.
I also napped every day at 5pm during my first trimester. I have *never* been that tired, and I have a 10 month old now.
As for travel, it’s all about what works for you. I probably wouldn’t be a hard no until the start of the third trimester (granting my clients were in cities/states with decent healthcare options) but that’s me. My last flight was somewhere around 26 (?) weeks, and that was for a wedding. The bigger concern to me would be your comfort and stamina.
Good luck!
My doctor was originally good with me traveling until 36 weeks. My client asked me to go cross country at 32 weeks and I had to say no because it had been a more difficult pregnancy than expected. So all depends on you, your age and the particular pregnancy.
Tips on getting through the workday - schedule a nap over lunch if possible. If you are remote any days, block your calendar and do that.
I echo stopping travel at around 32 weeks. Most people would expect you to continue traveling into 3rd trimester unless you have a specific condition that prevents it. I was high risk for both pregnancies and still did.
Good to know! I'll plan to extend more into the third trimester
Pro
I would have second cup of half-caf later in the day if needed, I found that the placebo effect of it helped just as much as the little bit of caffeine.
I was fine traveling through the end of my second trimester, then I stopped more because it didn’t feel right to rather than I was unable.
You can have 200mg of caffeine. I usually had a grande latte with 2 shots of espresso and was okay for most the day
Sleep when you can. Take your vitamins
Airlines and doctors don’t want you traveling at 36 weeks or later for healthy pregnancies. Also
you’ll be so uncomfortable you won’t want to either.
It’s up to you on the travel. Some stop at 3rd trimester.
Pro
Staying really really hydrated, having smoothies with protein powder to keep my protein intake up, and light snacks like blueberries helped my energy levels a bit, but also go easy on yourself— it’s okay to be tired when you are literally spending all day growing a human.
I stopped traveling for work around 26 weeks which felt right for me but listen to your body (and any advice from your doctor of course).
