66% effective at preventing infection

But 85% effective at preventing severe symptoms, and 100% effective against hospitalizations and death (in the trial sample size)

Single dose, no complicated cold chain logistics. This is a huge weapon against the virus, and could be used for young/low risk folks, while mRNA vaccines are used for higher risk groups (just hypothesizing here; I’m no epidemiologist)

like

I think this vaccine would still drastically reduce transmissibility — both lower viral load and lower length of disease

Also, I think it will be more difficult to get younger patients to get two doses at a reduced number of locations, whereas higher risk patients should be more motivated to do so

smart

Yes. We hit two home runs with Pfizer and Moderna. But we can score runs with Doubles and Triples too

It's about on par for just part 1 of any of the 2 part vaccines

I think I read somewhere the annual flu shot is about this effective.

Yes, but flu is less deadly than COVID (at least at this point). Also, I wonder how this is strong when peer products are citing higher probabilities of safety.

like

This is on par with most vaccines historical performance

Don't forget the difference between effectiveness and efficacy either. The effectiveness JnJ is reporting is likely more realistic as COVID cases cases were significantly higher as a whole during evaluation compared to Pfizer/Moderna's Phase I-III studies, and the lockdown measures became less stringent/less followed, meaning the effectiveness Pfizer and Moderna reported were likely inflated

It will need boosters, big deal

J&J built an old school proven by billlions of doses vaccine. It’s a dead cold molecule and they manipulated the protein receptors, it’s basically a flu shot and you get one a year at cvs, that’s how you get the whole planet.

Is mRNA better, yes, but until enough exists J&J like AZ which is similar save they used a gorilla cold virus molecule, are the key to masses and key to the 3rd world,

French figured it out Sanofi is now manufacturing Pfizer vaccine, why isn’t Merck?

It’s one dose and need boosters, get it approved

If you're being told "take your full lunch" (because by law you need to be given a certain amount of lunch depending on how many hours you work) but then you're told, if work's not done you need to stay until it is, and now people don't want to take their full lunches because it means they'll have to stay after work longer, is that coercion a violation of any federal labor laws?

Have you ever taken a career slow down? I am feeling burnt out from COVID and the incremental responsibilities thrown my way over the last 5+ years. I feel like my health has deteriorated. I like my company, but I want to do less. I don’t need to be a HR Director, CHRO, etc. With a career slowdown, I am prepared for a lower compensation and would want decent benefits. Any lessons learned or success stories about career slowdowns?

Had this question pop up a lot recently - discussed here many times before, but want to see if we can quantify the discussion a bit. Let’s assume the vaccine is at 70% shots in arms by 4th of July (‘21), and 80-85% by Labor Day. In 2022, are we back to 3/4/5, or do you think parts of the remote culture will stick going forward?
