Is anyone actually specific when putting their out of office message? My boss will put that he’s “feeling ill” or “at a doctors appointment” and I think it’s weird

I’ll say that I’m having a bout of violent diarrhea and people leave me alone.

Youll find as your responsibility grows more and you have more and more demands on your time from clients and staff- people don’t care why you are off— but they will care if you give a reason.

For instance i work 24/7 usually- but if i’m off on vacation i will say family time. Or a sick loved one- family issues. That helps folks have some context as to why my response is delayed.

agree - so many use OOO or "Busy" when working but just want to be left alone and most know this so they will still ping, send e-mails. Vacation, illness - OK but let's leave other details out

Generally speaking, I don’t put the reason in my OOO message. I just say “I will be out of office until [date] with limited access to email....”

Although once I had jury duty and I believe I did mention that in my OOO to people within KPMG. Only reason for that was because there was no precise date for when the trial would be over, and I really could not be on my phone at ALL during jury duty (they take your phone from you), so I wanted to be crystal clear that I would be unavailable.

like

yeah no, that’s weird. I don’t give a reason and instead of a cell phone I put our EA’s phone number.

like

I agree - i will never put my cell phone #

I don't get when people are too specific or personal either. For me, I feel like it's 1. Not their business but mostly that nobody cares.

like

I’ve recently seen people put maternity leave, vacation, and sick. Not sure why people are being more specific

like

You should put somethibt out there that makes you look good.

My clients out of office will put exactly what they’re doing like “traveling the world” or “at the casino hitting big” 😂

Lmao once my boss put out of office for a medical procedure (it was a colonoscopy) and I thought that was so weird.

wow

My only specifics in OOO emails are dates unavailable and when I’ll be back.

If needed internally, further detail is explained when letting people know of my schedule before the OOO.

agree some get too detailed or graphic - no joke, I had a staff put on her unavailable every time she went to the restroom and literally said she was in the restroom

If I get the job pay will start around 120k at a large company with room for growth. If I stay in PA school I will have around 120k in debt and will probably work in vascular surgery. What would you do? It’s literally the second week of school for me, I have my 3rd interview for the job next week

Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
