Is everyone still planning on remaining a teacher for the rest of their career or do you think you'll switch things up some day and try something new?

After teaching for 20 years, sadly, I will be leaving the profession. I obtained my Ed.S degree three years ago and THOUGHT that would make me want to stay. After being in the middle school for 15 years, I moved to the high school this year. That nailed the coffin in my career. I guess I thought things got better as students got older, but I think it’s WORSE!!! Plus, after discovering what principals make, I can leave education & actually be paid for the FOUR degrees that I have. I will miss it, especially my students, but I can always enjoy my family at home!!! I’ll finally have time for that after work daily, instead of trying to cram a ton of memories into the weekends and the ever-shrinking summer. 😝😆😝

Been teaching for 7 years. I don’t think I can retire being a teacher. Times are so different. Teaching has really taken a toll on my mental and physical health and I’m only 31. 😩 I might give it a couple more years before I do something else.

After 8 years, I will be leaving teaching and going back to Graphic Design where I will have time for myself and work on both my mental and physical health. Teaching really fell by the wayside after COVID. I refuse to deal with anymore student and parent entitlement and the additional disrespect by an unsupportive administration. I’d rather be my own boss, even if it pays way less.

Yes, I will remain a teacher. Although teaching is more stressful than it was 20 years ago when I started, I feel I have invested too much into retirement to quit.

At the 30 year mark (but unable to retire) I went to switch things up for a new career. Although I didn’t make the jump, the research and possibilities alone gave me a breath of fresh air for about two years. Then COVID hit. Fortunately I was forced out of the job I hated and wound up in a different district and a different role which I love. The acceptance and new challenges have extended my career and I plan to keep going beyond my full retirement eligibility (although for full disclosure there are other considerations). Switching things up within the field of education can be a huge benefit.

I don’t know what else I would do. I’m looking for ideas because I don’t know if I can stay much longer.

2024 marks my 4th year teaching…yet I’m currently interviewing for jobs outside of it (still in education). I’m passionate about the work and helping the kids, but I’m burnt out and can’t afford to pay my bills so I need a change immediately. I’ve tried different states, districts and grade levels. I’ve come to realize it’s not simply about the school, but the profession itself. I never wanted to go into teaching, but life gave me lemons so I did what seemed like the best thing to do at the time. I appreciate all the experiences, but I can’t wait to be free.

likehelpful

I certainly applaud you for looking for something else. When you’re burnt out like that, you can’t be the best for the kids when you don’t feel like you can give 100% anymore. Good luck in your search for another profession!!!

I would love to have a 2nd job in the side, but teaching is very exhausting as we make over 100 decisions every day in school. I wish to transit out of teaching if I could to something less stressful, and less demeaning. This is my 26th year.

Definitely done with teaching.

Staying. I’m at a rate now that it doesn’t make sense for me to leave from a financial standpoint, plus I still love teaching even though it is crazy hard. There are also very few career paths left that offer the time off, benefits, and pension that teaching does. I know that’s not true for non-union states, but that’s why I don’t teach in one of them.

uplifting

I have another job where I help families. It is rewarding and people are so grateful for my help.

The turnover rate at my school last year was almost 50%. This year, probably more, including myself.

I taught for 22 years before being stabbed in the back and let go. It was horrible. I’m now a paraprofessional making a lot less and trying to figure out my next move. I don’t want to teach anymore. I have 11 years until retirement and being a paraprofessional isn’t financially feasible. I have no idea what to do and am scared about my future.

Switching after this year and so excited for it too.

If I made more money, I wouldn’t mind staying until retirement. I have crippling student debt that I doubt I’ll ever pay off on a teacher salary alone (I’m in my early 30s). I’m trying to find an exit that pays well (six figures or more) not sure what yet.

I'm not a teacher anymore. Admin. Planning to work past my earliest possible retirement, but probably not so long that this is the last job I ever have. I'm old enough to be grandfathered into a pension (teachers hired in MI since 2010 don't get that), so I can be pickier about what I do for a living once I'm collecting, but I'll still need to work for a living.

I feel that teaching is my calling. I plan to do it for the rest of my career. 😀

Moving on after 5. I’ll be back but in another roll. This system needs a change

I make too much for only working 9 months out of the year to want to do something else.

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Got an offer from Kantar Consulting to work on their retail/cpg product.
Currently working with IBM with 10+ yoe having joined IBM 10 months back. Currently at 25 lpa and getting an offer of 32 fixed+15% variable.

Now my question is - Is it worth the gamble to leave IBM and join Kantar consulting which btw is known for market research and not consulting.
Also would leaving IBM after 1 year look bad on CV?

Question! I just moved(transferred) to another team of my company and received new title, graphic & creative services. I was a senior graphic designer at the previous team. What do you think about my new title? I love my new team and people here! Super healthy working environment! But just curious about the title.
