I’ve worked at AT&T as a sales consultant for 6 years and 8 months where we prospect, uncover, and close on leads. I’ve used Salesforce for the past 4 years during my tenure. I’ve done B2B sales where I’ve received awards for it for 2 years consecutively. Loads of troubleshooting, uncovering needs through consultative styled selling, and tech app subscriptions.
I was wondering if I have the necessary skills to transition into a tech sales role. If so, what would be the best role/fit for me?Amazon Salesforce Google @

I’m a controls engineer who just got my PE. Hope this helps.
It depends on what you want to do. If you want to design control systems for a consulting company (better work/life balance, mostly office work with travel) then you 100% need a PE to move up from being someone’s minion as an EIT. If you want to program PLC’s/work for an integrator you need it to move up into management, but not to do your day to day stuff. I know plenty of guys who refused to get it bc they wanted to just do the technical work. If you want to do field service work and more hands on work without moving into management, then don’t get it. ISA offers another cert that might be a better fit for that. If you want to own your own firm or move up into management/leadership, then you need it.
Yea
I feel trapped in a job where I make $200K a year working with idiots because I don’t have my PE and it’s hard to study now as I’m in senior Mgmt and have a wife, kids and a mortgage
Once I get the PE I’ll leave this company and go start my own company and make $1,000,000+ a year
Get your PE as early as possible , it’s worth it
Worth it from which perspective? As a professional credential it opens a LOT of doors for you. It takes consistent effort to maintain, though, so you'll need to decide for yourself if that effort is worth it.
I would say yes, especially if your company will pay for your test and then the fees required to maintain your licensing. You become more valuable in the marketplace and will be able to command a higher salary
The FE might be a bit rough since you've been out three years. I did mine right after I graduated BSME. It'll be worth it especially if the company covers the cost, including any insurance you have to carry.
It's cover by your company, no cost to you, and the only thing you need to do is get yourself to studying and passing the test? Don't see any possible downside to becoming a PE and a lot of possible upside by credentials, credibility, more open doors, more opportunities
What are FE and PE? I'm rather curious.
The PE exam is the Practice and Principles of Engineering exam. The PE license is the Professional Engineer license. The difference in the PE acronym is really semantics.
There are two requirements to obtaining the PE (Professional Engineer) license. The analogy for the exam would be passing the PE (Practice and Principles of Engineering) exam for engineers is like passing the bar exam for lawyers. The analogy for 4 years of experience under a Professional Engineer is like residency for doctors. Once you have your PE license, you are considered competent enough to approve engineering for public use, usually in the form of stamping engineering documents or drawings.
The main reason I see people don’t get their PE license is they don’t have any need for it as they don’t need to approve any engineering.
I took the FE a little tipsy in college after a Halloween party. I thought the PE was rough after 4-5 years of industry experience.
yes get your PE. the FE will be a little hard but just do a thorough review and relearn any college stuff you have to. don't have to go crazy just go through the practice exam and investigate every question that you could do it
