But more than all of that I have learned this stuff is always gonna be there and life is short so you should find something more meaningful to you and to spend your time in life doing things that make you feel alive, with ppl you care about. I plan to work a few more years in industry to have more than comfortable nest egg to be able to put down a 50% down payment on a place and switch into Teaching and travel in between semesters and enjoy life more. Happy new year everyone, get some exercise, eat healthy as much as you can and put a smile on your face you got the whole world in your hands... no deadline, shit client/coworker/boss is the end of things, there’s always been job opportunities in the profession and don’t get stuck in any situation that makes you feel you are trapped, take a job that you can live through for a period of time to meet obligations and goals of owning something and if like me pivot out of this nonsense unless you truly enjoy it, in that case I say good for you and keep it going. Happy 2021, sending positive vibes out there and wishing you all better things in this year and the years to come!

People who didn’t care about anyone, not just staff but neglect of their lives and family just to work 80 hours a week 6 days a week for 6-7 months a year for a a few k bonus and to raises that didn’t make a it worth it. I jumped into industry and was so desperate I went from 75k to 85k and went to a pretty awesome small office company. People were nice, appreciative, work was challenging but all taken care of in 45hrs a week 95% of the time. My only problem was a path upwards in the future. It was log jammed but my boss was great and I was happy 25 days pto and everyone actually took it and covered for each other. I fell into a false sense that this was normal after leaving PA. I eventually started listening to recruiters and received an offer from a slightly larger company at 100k for similar work but more room for growth and more variety and responsibilities. Boy was I wrong in coming here, I wouldn’t say leaving because had I stayed I would have been stuck for it looked like 6-7 years before any kind of small promotion. The new place was completely unstructured, incompetent people, insane personalities. I have been working not PA hours at all but it’s stressful with no process or procedures, everything is always a fire drill, people often confused and doing things incorrectly or just don’t care. I am looking for something better now but sucks because I’ve been to 2 PA and 2 industry jobs in the last 5 years, that being said I was promoted at the current place and now at 115k and 15% bonus benchmark. Previously 100k and 10% bonus mark. All in all I have realized in 5 years, the work is almost always miserable no matter what, good people, especially immediate boss is a complete game changer to happiness, money in PA jumps is lies to scare people from not leaving I went up 15k in 2.5 years in PA maybe would be 20k if I stated for promotions a few months more but was put on more new clients with deadlines during the summer so more busy season hours... not worth it. And in the 2.5 years in Industry salary has gone from 75k to 115k and a real bonus % of 15% compared to little or none in PA.

Looking to move apartments in DC…is spending 25%-30% of take home pay on rent too much? There are a lot of smaller options for cheaper, but want to find a place that I’d want to stay at for a few years, even if on higher end. Anticipating a likely raise in April, worst case July. Want to move now. Without raise, rent would be 30% take home; with raise, 25%. Or am I just overthinking it lol
