London is hella expensive and salaries are lower than the US.
Folks in FB like to believe that consulting pays extremely well everywhere, but that's largely an American thing.
ATK1 you need to take into account that
Purchasing power of 1£ for a London citizen = purchasing power of 1$ in certain large us cities
Everywhere else besides the US in general
And the fact that they have healthcare
Yes...
Btw my point above, when you start losing the personal exemption, means your marginal tax rate on that affected income is about 71%. 11% ‘free’ health care plus 40% standard tax plus loss of loss of income previously taxed at the 20% rate. It’s brutal.
It’s a good thing that real estate and other cost of living elements are proportionally lower in London as well.
Are you sure you're not comparing Pound Sterling to USD? The conversion is 1 Pound = 1.32 USD. Agreed still lower than the US but want to make sure it's not severely understated during comparison
The UK market pays much less than USA. It gets even worse when you factor in the “free” healthcare which is taxed at 11% and how you start to lose your equivalent of a personal exemption at around the manager salary range
BA1 there are plenty fishbowler who are neither US citizens nor even live in the US. Don't embarrass the rest of us Americans with your BS nationalism pls. Kthxbai
Europe in general
Australian consulting salaries are also very low. You don't crack 6 figures (generally) until manager. The major cities in Aus are also very expensive (Sydney is comparable to NYC).
I don't know why you assumed it would be comparable, tbh.
Atk2 fair enough, wasn't considering that when I commented about healthcare
So why are consultants paid so much higher in the US?
Competitive market
I would have assumed that London would be somewhat comparable, but the difference is huge...
