Yes! Google, FASB, and firm handbooks become your best friends. I have been on a IPO readiness project and my knowledge of accounting and SEC financial reporting has increased tremendously.
Hopefully I get on a buy side or carve out engagement after my IPO project.

no, you learn a wide breadth of things in college and apply 10% in your career. The important part is the ability to recall that information down the road by just spending some time brushing up on it.
For example, I knew significantly more about business consolidations when I graduated than I did 3 years into my career. But when my client was acquired, I had to brush upon that info and was able to recall it pretty quickly.
