Is it worth it to transition out of comp & benefits in to an HRBP role?

That would depend on what you value and your career goals.

What’s the difference between HRBP and an HR Generalist?

like

Same, no difference. HRBP is more function specific, rather assigned to a business function to manage people related matters in that function

like

Helping align a business' people strategy with their business strategy is obviously incredibly crucial. If you can see yourself working with senior staff, and communicating with them efficiently, I'd say definitely worth exploring.

An HRBP with expertise in benefits is an added plus..go for it if u want to have an all round career in HR

like

Yeah I have multi-state benefits and leave knowledge. So that’s always a plus.

like

What are your priorities/goals in your career?

I want to do more then benefits sometimes. Also HRBP gets paid more.

The HRBP has a little of everything and instead of just one thing. And I think I’m burnt out on benefits only.

then go for it, I can imagine that work gets stressful after awhile

It’s great to have different experiences so if you are feeling like you aren’t growing then YES - do it!

I feel like I get bored sometimes

Follow up question would be how does one transition into an hrbp role? I too am interested

HRBP roles have a lot of really ugly parts - employee relations, lay offs, coaching, investigations, difficult leaders. I’d stick in total rewards

Me too :(

It really depends on what you’re comfortable with. HRBPs deal with all ER, But on a higher level. Similar to Generalists, but thinking more strategic in the long run. My colleagues hear my ER stories and say they’ll never go the HRBP route because they don’t want to deal with stupid drama and pettiness. But I personally enjoy coaching leaders to be better leaders.

If it’s a deal breaker, I wouldn’t go that route. I would look into trying another HR specialty like TA

Sometimes, it depends on the company as well. But if you want to expand your career, then go for it.

What base salary/ total comp to expect for a Sr PM in Toronto in today’s market?

I was looking at PM roles only that were around $110k, one company approached me with Sr PM (title bump) at $110k. I’m getting scheduled for final interview loop next week with this company and planning to negotiate if an offer is extended from them. I did tell them that I’m at final stage with other companies so they can expect multiple offer situation from me. Advice?

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

I strongly believe new hire onboarding should not sit in the HR/People Operations space but should sit in the HR Coordinator/HR Generalist space. As a new hire, they should be able to have a confirmed point of contact especially during their first 90 days and People Ops should not be that point of contact unless there’s system or access issues.

Hi 👋🏻 Would love some support here - looking to build out a bonus structure for a Sales Engagement Mgr role - it isn't a typical sales role - this person will be closing deals but not necessarily securing leads. If they will be scoring leads, it will be organic via conferences, partnerships. Of course, we want to encourage and incentivize this person. Potentially giving then an extra 20-50k bonus potential. How do I build this out? Any suggestions or examples would be super helpful. Thank you!!

Am I being paid competitively? I have been the Onboarding Sup for my HR dept for over a year now and I’m being paid the state min for salary, which for CA is 62,400. I have not gotten a merit raise since the last 2 January’s, the state raises the threshold for salary folks. My company says that was my raise. Is this right? I bring a background from the clinical operations of my company, scheduling, field work, and what the average employee faces. I want to look else where but I’m not sure.

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?

We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)
