Is it wrong to keep your screen active (for IM) but cut out of work early (4pm) to go to the gym? I typically come back and put in another hour or so but feel guilty that it’s done in a shady manner. BTW I’m not at a company/role that demands 60 hour work weeks (lol f that)

No. Unless it's something critically time sensitive, there's no reason your boss or anyone else should care. As long as you're delivering what's expected on time and are reachable for most of the day, companies should care about results, not when you do your work

To that extent, I wouldn't work for a company (anymore) where I have to worry about my IM status all the time

Agreed completely. Plus WFH all the time, it’s nice to get out and reset mind! I’ll take lunch breaks or even late (9:30) morning classes sometimes then back to work.

Nope. I do this. But before I go I just make sure I get my work done. If you’re on top of everything, I don’t see why this is wrong.

like

If you feel shady it’s shady. Just go inactive and own it.

OP just get teams on your cell phone. That way if they do message you, you can respond. Agreed that workers who just took the time and didn’t tell everybody about it or much more successful. Nobody really cares where you are as long as you can respond, teams on your cell phone will give you that

like

How do you keep your screen active? I’d love to do this. We use Teams.

Tech8 mouse jiggler is the best money I’ve spent all year. 🙏
I have a super micro-manager and this device has been a life saver.
You can also access TEAMS on your phone as an app.

I put fake meeting blocks on my calendar to sneak out to the gym mid day if I can’t get to it in the morning! Gotta do what keeps you sane, as long as you’re getting your work done it shouldn’t matter when you’re doing it

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

Calls two managing directors on the phone
Three associate partners at the door

Five senior managers come overdressed
Six managers show up with a guest
Seven senior consultants arrive in a sack
Eight associates sneak in the back
Nine analysts come to work
ALL THE CONSULTANTS GO BERSERK!!!
