There's good money in sales, trust me. I’m in B2B industrial equipment sales, and while tech sales does get a lot of hype for those huge paychecks, it’s definitely not the only path to good money. Last year, with base plus commissions, I made around $230K, and I know folks in medical device sales, pharmaceuticals, and even high-end real estate who regularly hit six figures or more. It really depends on the industry, the size of your accounts, and your commission structure.
How are you meeting quotas? Tech sales isn’t the only path, but it does tend to have higher ceilings because of the commission structures and deal sizes. I think the whole “tech sales = big money” thing can be a little overhyped. Yeah, some people are crushing it, but not everyone in tech is pulling 6 figures, a lot depends on the product, the company stage, and your territory. I know folks in real estate, insurance, and even logistics sales making great money too. It’s more about finding the right fit where you can consistently close and grow.
Tech sales without a doubt gets a lot of hype, but there are plenty other lucrative fields out there to get in. Have a friend in solar clearly 6 figures easily and some nice bonuses along the way too. Company structures have a lot to do with it all too, not everyone in any niche has the same experience.
