Is there a good way to avoid signing up for new major responsibilities at current role if you’re actively job searching / interviewing? I feel like I’m close to an offer (in the next week) but my manager just added me as a sole resource to a new project. I feel like they’re counting on me and I would be screwing them over. Trying to balance being engaged at work while actively job searching. I like my team and don’t want to burn any bridges!

Was in the same position. You can't say anything at your current job until you have a signed offer for a new job. You risk your employer dismissing you immediately. Just carry on as normal. Yes it's awkward but it is what is best for you. I tried to get staffed on something that was easier to backfil me on but they said no. When I handed my notice in they were like ooooooh that's why!

You're just a number. Companies have navigated much worse problems than resourcing a project. Good luck!!

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
