I don’t even think there is a general “rule” based on titles. I’ve seen Senior financial analysts start at over $100k at Amazon and some start at $60k at another Fortune 100 company. Some companies will have inflated titles that require the same experience. I would use Glassdoor and also this forum and look for specific job title and company to see the difference.
Some SFAs, though, are not FP&A.
OP is talking specifically about SFAs in FP&A which I believe in general demand higher pay than a Senior Accountant
FP&A is harder to get into and offers higher pay. I found a stark difference between the 2 when recruiting. Don't get confused: senior financial analyst is often just a fancy name for senior accountant. True FP&A is more challenging to break into and pays more.
From the numbers thrown around, I generally get the feeling Senior Accountants can command higher pay as they have more specific requirements (i.e must have CPA, public experience etc.). If so, should I adjust my expectations downwards when considering other positions such as FP&A?
I’m not so sure it goes one way or another. If anything I would say I think it’s harder to break into FP&A so those jobs command more money. Think they’re pretty similar though
