You should go on linked in and look at the profiles of people for the type of jobs that you want in the future. Are they coming from deloitte or MBB or somewhere else? Do you see any patterns? This is good advice in my opinion because you’re examining what actually is happening versus whatever you or someone else thinks should happen
Non consulting employers likely have never heard of either unless you're targeting a specific role that is frequently filled by ex consultants or if the company has hired said firm before.
Is there a difference in exit opps? Depends. If you're looking for one of the high demand MBA type exits like PE, IB, etc. then definitely. Otherwise, not really. MBB is still probably the more lucrative option between the two though for the aggressive promotion timelines and better comp.
Thanks, appreciate the insight 🙏
As someone who did some time at Deloitte and lateraled to mbb I can say there is a significant difference. Everyday at mbb you see people exiting to opps that you only see once in a while top people at Deloitte get. Additionally, the structure at mbb is a lot more flat (for example I feel like A/C are easily working at a Deloitte SC level - great to learn of out of undergrad). There’s also much more scrutiny when it comes to the work with much higher expectations, but at the same time I found people at mbb are much more willing to invest in its people than managers I had at Deloitte.
+1 made the same transition and had exact same experience
On average? Absolutely a difference. But I’ve also seen extremely high performers from D who can compete with MBB for roles (ex. seen a couple exits to VC / startups / FAANG corp strat where the team is predominantly ex-MBB). Not often but it happens
Think of it as graduating from Harvard vs graduating from MIT. Both are right up there but MIT is not Harvard.
if mbb is harvard I dont think MIT is deloitte, maybe more like BU or BC
Jesus, always Deloitte.
Tbh I prob wouldn’t work for a company that couldn’t distinguish between MBB and Big 4
^^ this. It’s a red flag to me when strategy teams don’t have former MBB formers

Can anyone explain what specifically the differences are? Whenever I google it, nobody talks specifics, just that MBB is better for exits. What does a bad exit look like vs mbb?
Also have the same genuine question as D 2.
F
There are some exits (e.g., PE / Top VC) that you can only get from MBB. But most exits (big tech / top startup / F100 strategy) are all doable from the top talent at other firms (ex Deloitte / T2)
This has gotta be a troll post trolling Deloitte by someone at Deloitte 🤣

You serious?
Yes, just wanted to know what people’s experiences have been.

Yes.
LOL, go check how many fortune 500 CEOs are from McKinsey and how many from Deloitte.
