I’ve been hired by a health benefits startup with only consulting experience. Any recommendations for books, blogs, or online course material to get myself as oriented as possible before starting in 2 weeks?

I have found that this is an area in need of resources. I have been gathering info to write and have considered a blog or podcast of some sort.

Ahhhh

What kind of startup? Mine are payer focused: I listen to the podcast The Next Big Thing In Health, it’s by AHIP. Mintel Compremedia has webinars. I also read Fierce Healthcare and health stories in mainstream media, everything from Kaiser Health News to Buzzfeed because I want to understand public perception as much as developing expertise. And Dr. Glaucomaflecken just for fun.

Do note that I obviously work for Mercer but we publish a lot of great research and industry trends in the H&B space across our website and social media outlets.

H&B consulting was a pivot for me when I got in and a lot of my knowledge ended up coming from just on the job training tbh.

Thanks everybody for the tips! I might message you for any other insights, happy to share name of company over DM

As a law student interested in going into the field I’ve seen a lot of negative comments saying that only lawyers who couldn’t get into big law go into PA. Although I know most people try to get into big law initially, it is very competitive and many don’t stay past 2-3 years. You certainly don’t make as much going into PA as a lawyer but the pay is certainly not bad and the WLB is generally much better. Can anyone speak to how they got into PA and if you would rather be working in Big Law
