Absolutely take a leave of absence, get a doctors note and take a considerable time off sick. Use it to search for a new job and destress.
In consulting, they’ll always treat us like a resource and genuinely don’t care about engagement nuances. Once your firms hits a rocky patch, they won’t hesitate to get rid of good people if it makes financial sense to do so.
I guess I would also have to consider the unintended consequences if you didn’t take that leave of absence. Taking time off can and the surrounding feelings really comes down to the workplace, I would just try to focus on how you feel and start looking around if you have to.

So don't be a martyr to a company that wouldn't think twice about cutting you loose if it made financial sense. If you're feeling stress to the point where you feel like you need time off, that's it, you need time off.
