Get that fucken raise, playa
This is really none of your business at this point. Maybe one day it will be but as a junior - currently - it just isn’t. You don’t know how the budgets are being put together - what other rates are discounted from other folks - or what their margins on profitability are. What they need to earn to keep the place afloat - just because you see one line item doesn’t mean you have the full picture. Either you trust the leadership or you don’t. If you don’t - quit and don’t give them your young years. And if you do, then just keep your head down and worry more about doing a good job than what your title or pay rate is. If you do a good job, folks will notice and I’m sure a raise is always an option during your scheduled review. what you are being billed out as may have very little to do with you or your performance - and rather part of a strategy you aren’t privy to.
Seems like this could be done to give clients the perception that the agency’s most experienced creatives are working on their ads. (Maybe not for our junior friend who’s getting billed as a mid though)
Billable rate and salary are not directly connected. An agency has to bill talent out at a higher rate than their salary as that is the only way an agency can pay overhead (rent, computers, utilities, admin) .It is not usually a sign you are being screwed.
Try to sneak a peek at a staffing plan. This unfortunately is a normal practice, especially at agencies going through promo freezes.
@PD1 Thanks – I do trust leadership (and I love my agency). I was genuinely curious to know – didn’t want to reach a higher level and it be something I didn’t understand/something I get told I should have learnt early on.
Might be a good time to inquire about a promotion or a raise
I called my agency out on that and they laughed in my face. told me to "keep paying my dues” and to mind my business.
I left shortly after that.
Sure sounds like fraud to me!
How did you find out? Suspicious of the same— not senior but mid level
It’s what SAD1 said. Agencies sell a more experienced staff mix to the client, bill for it then actually staff with Juniors. That’s how they make margin.
That’s why big agencies are dying
Typical
PD 1 nailed it.
Do they also introduce you to clients as the higher title? I had that as well
Normal practice
🤔
