Anyone here broken into real estate private equity from big 4 consulting? What steps did you take to jump into RE PE? What gaps in knowledge did you have and how did you fill them? Outside of the knowledge gaps what other things do you think you needed in order to get into RE PE?

For those that left Big 4 after 1 year for a smaller public accounting firm, do you regret your decision or you’re glad that you left?

Just been offered a manager position (people & org consulting) at a big 4 in Qatar for 24k (QAR). Based on previous threads this seems low for the region. Especially as 9k goes towards accommodation (max unfurnished 1br) ....Have I been low balled? Or is this normal?

What are some consulting companies in NY that do UX design? I know all the Big 4 & Accenture have acquired agencies, are there any smaller consulting firms that do it?

A couple questions for the turnaround consulting fishes:
1. Is FP&A experience valuable for restructuring/turnaround consulting? I’m a CPA with experience in Big 4 FDD and a short stint in IB. Total work experience is a little over 2 years. I recently joined a RE company as a Sr FA in FP&A where I expect that I’ll be mostly doing budgeting & forecasting work.
2. If my goal is turnaround consulting, what should I focus on right now to best position myself?

Would it be hard to get a exp associate role in advisory at a B4 as someone with about 10 months in audit at EY, 7 months experience in corporate accounting at a F300 and CPA? Hated my time at the F300 but had thought the grass would be greener in industry. I’m starting a financial analyst position at a major hospital system in my area soon and want to stick with that for a couple years before making a transition but was curious if I just don’t have the right experience for a role in advisory.

Does anyone have an idea how the work life balance is at Department of Treasury LB&I? Im getting tired of this Big 4 life and it seems to be one of the exit opps for a TP professional

Who was around in 2008/2009 at big 4? Specifically in advisory? How were those practices affected during the layoffs? Any insight to ease some of the worry/unknown would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone left big 4 or other PA firms tax transaction service groups for industry (or know of anyone)? What was the role and salary bump, how are annual bonuses/raises in industry, what is a typical work week (hours) like? I don’t think I can take this always on just to stay afloat life much longer. For context I am considered a high performer, am near the top of the salary band at my level and have a great supporting network at Deloitte. It’s just not worth it to have zero personal life.

So fed up with my practice and not looking to stick around for typical below-market compensation in October.

Anyone here work for both Accenture and Deloitte Federal Advisory practice? I know the practice in itself sucks, but did you have a preference between the two companies?

Deloitte fish: I’m an alum trying to do some retirement planning. I was an SM2 vested in the pension plan (I worked in DTTL for 7 years ending 2013) and want to find out what my actual benefits will be and at what age. I have no paperwork and 800-Deloitte does not seem to have a way to route me to the right people. Does anyone have a human contact or procedure that can help me get this info?

Sounds like before you could pick up Luca or Mahomes cards before they proved their value, now that potential upside seems to be baked into the price. I have about 10yrs of customers service experience. I'm looking for work, but I'm always getting minimum wage for this position. Should I change career path? Or is there a job for customer service that actually pays well.

I have an offer from TCS which is offering 35 LPA. However the variable component is around 7LPA. I want to know does TCS pay variable 100% or they deduct a considerable amount from variable.

When you acquire only post tcja NOLs from an acqusition, do you need to reduce the DTA by the 382 limited portion or does it not matter because NOLs are carried forward for ever? Or do you only record 80% of it bec thats what u can ultimately only use?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Compared to 40-50% in other places. Crazy hours feb-apr, 40 apr-jul, 45 in Aug, maybe 50-60 that last week of aug/ early sept. <40 post 9/15. We have a need at the senior level to fill a gap. Seniors help is needed everywhere so if your interested, come cash in your chips!

Feel like I’m stuck. I’m a senior manager (CPA) in international tax but considering a do-over to be more desirable to the industry. If you had to start over (with industry as your end goal) what focus area would you choose?

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?

NJ Personal Income tax question:
My wife and I file a joint return. We were part time residents in 2020z unfortunately, we both filed our joint tax return. My wife sent via paper and I sent electronically. Any idea what happens now? Can't get ahold of anyone.
To make matters worse - NJ doesn't have a paper part time resident return - so you file a resident and non resident separately. Ours net to a refund but the resident one shows a large amount due and the non resident shows a large cont...
