this is just another variation of a common question on the bowl - “leave for startup? pay is a bit less than i was expecting.”
you should consider whether or not you are really down with the startup lifestyle/career path for the next few years, and whether you value the growth potential of a startup. if you are, and especially if you already believe in this particular startup, the $8k difference in expected salary would not be a factor. seriously, that’s nothing.
if you are just looking for an industry move and you’re evaluating this offer on the same basis you would evaluate other industry offers, then it sounds like you’ve made up your mind, and that you don’t really value the increased opportunity for growth that a startup offers vs. more established lateral industry positions.
I think you’re splitting hairs over a 5% difference in base comp expectations. If you want to press get the offer in wiring first then counter
If it is impossible or beyond meat, I wouldn’t look back

Depends on the your anticipation on the stock option and growth.

Say 180 and settle on 175 then. What kind of question is this?

8k?? If you like the job take it.
If that is their first offer then there is room to bump it. I would say that you were expecting more like $180 and ask if they can come to which they’ll prob go to 170 then I’d say if you can meet me at $175 I will sign right now. Hopefully they will have at least bumped it a few grand.
