Assess yourself where you are most comfortable working with. Do you prefer working at the back office or are you more comfortable facing people and attending to their needs.
?? Definitely go to CS. It is incredibly hard to move to front office roles, and when you leave in 12 months to lateral to a front office role at a more stable bulge bracket, you can use the restructuring as a clear excuse as to why you left. It is obviously not a good long term career decision, but if you view it as an easy way to advance your career, it is a clear decision. Not to mention CS is an incredibly strong brand still.
^this. Everyone talking about layoffs isn’t considering the fact that you’ll leave in <24mo anyways and your exit opportunities will be exponentially greater
Do NOT join CS, it's a hot mess over here. Very stressful times which have been going on for years. Senior management has their objectives which they push down to the lower levels without caring for the recourse. I'm on my way towards the exit as we speak. We've had large amounts of turnover at the Bank and management doesn't care. I'm not bitter truly, it's just the honest truth. Save yourself the stress, it's not worth it my friend. Good luck!
True but there are a plethora of those types of jobs in NC
I would join, prob much better career wise. The news is true but it’s not like they’ll start cutting new analysts that barely affect them financially. Worst comes to worse, you look for another job but the recruiter would understand given the news that it wasn’t your capability that got you laid off.
CS is a sinking ship, I would stay away
I would stay away from CS right now, not a good time to join the bank when there is so much uncertainty on where things are going. Upper management is selling assets to ramp up capital, speculations of a bank run are rampant. The bank has had an enormous amount of attrition. Clearly that’s a big red flag when people who have been there for years are leaving. It’s stock price has tanked over 10% this year alone. So has its markets cap. Most people are stressed out. Please read yesterdays WSJ piece on CS for more specific details. Stay away for now and maybe revisit in a couple of years or something.
Wouldn't they get bailed out if they became insolvent?
Depends how confident you are that you could land another FO position at another bank. I would say generally yes though.
Depends on the group
If you are truly set on moving to front office for your long term career goals, I’d make the jump. Might be stressed a company, but it’s a globally recognized bank, and you can always move to another bank afterwards. Would be good on the resume if you’re prepared for the turbulence and possible layoffs/ shuffling. With that said breaking into the front office is always difficult at any bank, so if this is your only way to break in I’d go for it.
What front office role is it? I get that CS is not the safest place to be right now but it’s FO.. to make it from BO to FO is very very hard
Client Manager position. Covering my home market
Don’t jump to CS!
My SO works at CS. So many people left and are leaving. A lot of overtime work now even though it’s a back office position…
I would stay away like everyone else said. I wooud go with the counter offer and stay with JPM personally.
If you're having a hard time getting into banking, then I would take this offer to move to another bank afterwards!
I got an interview with CS in Poland. Do you have any idea regarding the branch Poland?
