Kind of falling apart. Have some of my own health issues that need specialist involvement, and now my dad may have ALS. Before that, earlier this week had multiple holes in our roof causing water to pour in, have a bat in the attic / basement, and had a cleaning crew accidentally ruin our very expensive stove (used oven cleaner on stainless). Have international travel coming up for work this weekend and that’s tough with 2 kids under 3. How do people deal with this many life curveballs?

Sometimes these moments happen. Sharing helps knowing it’s not you or just you. Other than that, letting go of smaller stuff while focusing on imp stuff works for me. My house is beautiful but except on the cleaning day it’s a mess due to kids. I know when kids will go away for college and onwards the house will be clean, what bother now. Compartmentalizing works. Cry it out and move on. Do the next immediate and push away less imp ones. One step / thing at a time. Don’t think it all together.

Count the blessings, you have 2 wonderful kids and those are your biggest blessings, you have a job and can afford nice things and cleaning crew, things aren’t always as bad as they feel especially when you compare your blessings and see how blessed you are compared to 90%+ people

I try, and they bring me the most joy over anything. But ALS is just absolutely devastating as far as diseases go.

That is a lot. One thing at a time. ❤️

Deal with issue by issue, prioritize, and I guess any kind of talk therapy will be great immediately. Dont rush into meds decision when life is this rushed - think through for a few days and get expert opinion. Good luck!

Should add I go to therapy and don’t see an SSRI making this go away

like

If you’re vacillating on SSRIs, perhaps learn about Zembrin. No tapering off, fully non-prescription, very mild. Note, this is not medical advice, I am not a medical professional, and you should speak with one first

Thank you, I’ve been on 2 different ones in the past and just didn’t feel like I saw a difference enough to matter, and while it may have “numbed” the edges a bit on anxiety, I feel like we’re way past anxiety now and I feel like I’m more in crisis mode trying to figure all of this out.

Landing that I’ll probably have to leave my job so I can take care of my kids, myself, and be there for dad. Just finding it too hard to balance everything.

We flew back from Ireland today on Delta. Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

But I’m so validated by my performance...sad isn’t it? Hope I’m not alone.

Hello fishes. Need some insurance advice.
My parents are dependent on me. My 62 yo dad and 57yo mom do some part time work and makes $1000/mon. Dad has some health complications like diabetes, high bp, genetic heart issues, liver problems etc. Does it make sense to get a life insurance for him - 20 yr term, $1M coverage. Premium is around $500. I am thinking I can pay the premium but if something happens to dad, it will help my mom pay be self-sufficient

I have to support my family financially. Usually my mom cooks for the family so groceries only cost $1200/month. However, my mom is abroad for 2 months so it’s just my siblings and they can’t cook so they’ve been using my card for doordash. I think there are days when they spend $100+/day. It’s frustrating because my mom already told them the daily budget repeatedly. I’ll go bankrupt at that rate. However, it’s not like I can take my card back since I don’t want them to starve…

I think I may have made a huge mistake today. My skip level director sent out an email about something and asked us for feedback. I sent back a note and provided some. One of the things I said was that our job satisfaction might be improved if we could do more of X kind of work instead of Y kind of work that we do so much of in our group. The next thing I know, I get a ping from his EA to set up time for me to chat with him and my director tomorrow. I am getting in trouble tomorrow, right?
