Let's all take a moment of silence for all the Juniors across the country who are having their weekends ruined by mid-level and seniors dumping tasks on them they don't want to do.

“Thanks, I’ll start on this Tuesday.” Easy-peasy

A9, definitely agree - those explanation / thank yous / acknowledgements of my hours put into a deal were so small but meant so much to me as a junior so I very much go out of my way to make those to my juniors.

Think we can all agree out of the blue weekend work (esp holiday weekend work) sucks.

likehelpful

For the thousandth or so time, we don’t dump tasks on you that we “don’t want to do”. We dump level-appropriate tasks on you. If you as a junior are capable of doing it, it’s your job, otherwise why do you work here? Asking juniors to first draft ancillaries or coordinate signatures or whatever does not necessarily mean I don’t have to work on the weekend, it means I’m delegating level-appropriate tasks so I can draft the complicated loan agreement that you are certainly not capable of doing yet.

Just advised a client that we should crank all weekend to turn documents back Tuesday morning. This will also involve me working all weekend but is genuinely what is best for the deal/client. I hate what I have become (kidding—sort of).

Welcome to biglaw? Why is this a surprise to you at this point?

Refusing to do stuff seniors ask you to do because you don’t like the timing on principle just screws over the other associates on your team. If all the seniors refuse to work with you you will be asked to leave. I’ve seen it happen multiple times even in this market

I’m working today so my juniors don’t have to.

Military taught me this. Never ask someone to do something you wouldn’t do yourself. If you wouldn’t work this weekend, don’t expect someone junior to you to work this weekend.

There are many reasons why people in the working world are not direct when speaking. They are one of the following:

* They pretend they are experts
* They are inexperienced
* They are full of themselves
* They don't know what they are looking for
* They love to talk

Even if these people have good intentions, be careful of them. Your time is valuable, and the best thing for you to do is to be direct back at them.

So my VP at my previous company felt bad and refused to speak to me or attend my farewell after my resignation. His reason was that I somehow betrayed his trust as he had promoted me just last year (after keeping the position open for 4 months and letting me take additional work load after the previous SM left!). Does this make any sense? I mean where does this sense of entitlement or ownership over the employees come from? No wonder the company in question is kind of facing a literal exodus!

About to finish my first year. I’m a specialist. Only going to hit 65% of my hours (took a 4 week vacation cause of wedding/hm).

I never say no to work and i have fantastic reviews, and the head of my practice (with whom I work a lot for) has great things to say about me.

I’ve been fully utilized starting ~June, but first few months were slow. Am i fine?!

I’m a new associate to a T&E group, partner goes away on vacation and leaves me with a 706 to review and sign. The family is very wealthy. Decedent married for 60 years. Partner says it’s “just a DSUE election, decedent was ill for years, no assets.” Provides no records. Not even an admission the decedent owned a toothbrush. So I looked up the decedent’s home - it’s a joint asset. Partner was “surprised”, and still insists “no other assets”. I found file references to art and antiques.

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

I work for a small agency and manage our internal marketing acct. We had very few processes in place when I started. I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.
