Paypal Hello, I've been offered Data engineer /Software Engineer at PayPal, india.
How's the company doing, is it profitable? Bit skeptical about the recent layoffs at PayPal.
Any data engineers at PayPal around? Whats your thoughts, how's the team doing and how would be the growth?

Everyone faces tough projects. The answer isn’t to run - step up and get through it.
Fair point , don't want to run or anything but also cognizant of sometimes the odds are not in your favor. There is a thin line between being brave and foolish
Try to tough it out for a year, if you can. Nobody will fault you for a boomerang after that amount of time.
I would see if it gets better with a different client. I don’t agree with the “get through it” mentality, life is too short to spend time doing something you hate IF you can have the life you want while doing something else. But do you hate the job, or just this client/project? Worth waiting to see which it is :)
It's a loaded question. So let me say that I ended up taking a job that pays way (way) better but span and visibility is way lower. However what makes matter worse is the client culture sucks. Not seen many clients doing a Friday call at 6 pm as a norm ?? Plus the engagement is just a mess with delivery delays escalations and whatever you can think of. As they say money can't make up for everything else or maybe it does sometimes 😱😀

Head back but with equivalent or higher comp
It’s unlikely they will take you back at the rate you’re making now but could be worth a shot
Not much better over here. We have no staff and we make recommendations more based on if the downstream work we can sell is $$$$ vs best interest of client. Client is smart enough to know it doesn’t pass the sniff test aka engagements are a mess, plus your own professional reputation takes a hit
I mean this is how I sold at Acn and how I’m selling at Deloitte. I will also sell like this at S& when I join bc it honestly makes sense most of the time. Clients almost never call us in to come in to tell them a lotion they can implement. They need the strategy to implement to operate help.
6pm client calls on Fridays?? Yuck! I don’t stay online past 3pm on Fridays lol sounds like they offered you enticing TC for a reason
Haha I see the funny side of it but believe me no money would have enticed to work Fridays at 6 !
Come back!
You are a kind EYer !
So I was in similar shoes. I left big 4 for a smaller company. I started to see some red flags such as no wlb but was promised wlb, no responsibilities for my role (basically I was just a processor) and the project I was on was beyond demanding. Now I add the last part but honestly I’ve been on demanding projects in the past and that’s no reason to leave. Truth of the matter was I just wasn’t happy there and the project was just me adding another reason why I feel like I should leave. I stayed there for half a year and went back to the big 4. I am so happy and relieved I did. I have a much better wlb than before and the projects are so much more interesting with me being able to function at my level. I feel more freedom. With that said I would leave. But before you decide to go back figure out why you left EY in the first place and if you’re ok with dealing with w.e that was again. I am now so appreciative of my job and so thankful. Leaving and coming back did work out in my favor though because now I was able to get a higher salary.
6 months atleast
