If you’re asking these question on fishbowl you should probably go with a dealership. Go to a few, test drive some cars and find a salesman you trust.
“Find a salesman you trust” lmao.
Im old (52) and have had a lot of cars, my advice, buy certified gently pre-owned 2-3 years old sub 30k miles and be prepared to buy an extended warranty once the certified piece runs out. Check the CarFax ahead of time as well. New cars today are ridiculously expensive.
I’m in same boat as OP. Lots of the used cars I Like aren’t certified pre owned (CPO). I’m not a car guy so wondering if I could pay the dealership to CPO it or ask the dealership if I can take it to the model’s dealership to CPO
Also curious
Avoid Autonation at all costs. Invited me out to drive a car literally yesterday and told me if I could get there before 330 and wanted it it was mine because they had someone else coming in then to look next. Took off the afternoon, drove out there and drove at 1pm agreed to purchase. Provided details for them to begin the title work then the sales associates manager wouldn’t confirm the purchase when they found out we wanted to just pay cash and not trade in our car - my hypothesis is he holding out for the later party who he was hoping would finance or he was trying to sell it to his buddy. Tried to claim it was already sold but couldn’t provide proof. I honestly think they went and hid it in the back of the lot somewhere. Wasted my whole afternoon and think they are the scum of the earth and hope they did not have a happy Thanksgiving.
I honestly think most dealerships are probably shady as fuck. Go test drive the cars and waste their time with zero intent of getting them that day, hold your ground, and then go back and look online maybe is the move once you know what you want. Avoid lemons, lots out there, make sure you have the option for a post purchase inspection to take to your own mechanic.
Buy a Tesla. Thank me later
Just go to Carmax, hire a mobile mechanic for a PPI, and buy their warranty lol, easy enough
