McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.
Hi fishes,I have around 5.2 yrs of hands on exp in data engg. and able to clear service based companies interviews easily. Now I want to switch to product based companies as I am looking for some good work, good salary but I am not really strong in dsa as it's not part of my daily work.I don't really use trees and graphs as part of my daily work.

when you say “films” do you mean actual movies or “films” like how douchey creatives refer to commercials?
Are you Canadian?
I know you say you want to do movies. But a way in through the Groupe may be reach out to the internal production company’s to get you in the door. I happen to know for sure someone there would maybe help you. Let me know if this is interesting to you
I work in strategy, so I don’t have many contacts in that world. I’m willing to admit I’m green & open to learn. Just not sure where to start. Also: well aware this is a pipe dream and if it were easy, everyone would do it.
Definitely movies. Away from ads and brands, into shows and movies.
my guess would be to get an internship with a studio.
Start as a PA, which is literally driving around, picking things up for people. Like coffee and supplies. Studios hire that all the time.
I used to work in tv and I’ve seen few people move up into an artistic role from PA. Some into coordinating or producing from my experience. Not sure the answer to this but I would think having a good ad book of tv spots wouldn t hurt. And reaching out for art department jobs in the film industry. A lot of independent and sometimes student work (help out on their productions) is a way to build your book of work as an AD in film.
Can you write? I’ve heard of people starting as assistants in the writers room and then writing for the shows
What do you want to do? No matter what, you’ll need to be an assistant of some kind. If you have zero clue, start in the mail room at talent agency. You also need to move to LA. None of these jobs will pay you a living wage. As a result, you will meet a lot of well connected people because they’re the ones with parents that can afford to pay their kid’s bills while they follow their dreams. If you want to work in production, start networking via the production companies your agency uses. Those companies consistently hire from the same pool of trusted freelancers. You make more money set PAing on commercials because the day rates are higher. So they’re actually the most competitive. Again, still in LA. I know agency producers who have relocated to LA from NYC to work as assistants on the decks of others. LA doesn’t give a fuck about any of your previous experience. The shift will be big and hard so make sure you want it more than anything. Especially security and insurance. I found NYC to be a cakewalk compared to my experience living and working in LA. Good luck and prepare to sign a lot of NDAs and see some weird shit you can’t tell anyone about.
