McKinsey & Company Manager focusing on technology strategy & tech M&A, currently working on my MBA. Would it be easier for me to get into MBB if I apply to McKinsey Digital & BCG TA, or do I have an equal shot at the generalist tracks? McK Digital appeals the most, as I've heard you don't have to exclusively work on digital cases.

I would apply as a generalist if that’s what you want to do

Applying for a specific practice is always easier than going for generalist roles. It is less competitive and allows you to highlight your expertise better in your application.
Are you applying for expert Digital track or integrative generalist digital track? First one is easier, second one is just as hard as the pure generalist track
You can also apply for the integrative track but digital.
I got a generalist offer from primarily tech strat roles and an mba. But echoing the others here - apply for what you actually want to do.
Really depends on what you want to do and what you’re trying to get out of MBB. Generalist or expert track is literally the same in terms of compensation / hours are better for expert for most scenarios but generalist does have more options to do random walks (broader range of projects you can do).
Why would u want to join digital so u don’t do non-digital work ? Apply for what you want like others said. Are you aiming for the expert track ? Coz if so, u will be prioritized for digital work assuming this is what u good at
To provide some color to my comment above - I was an experienced hire with deep expertise in Life sciences. I applied as a generalist, and made clear in my interview process “I am not opposed to leveraging my background and doing life sciences work but I’d like the opportunity to pick studies without constraints. There are several other practices at the firm (insurance, SHaPE, etc.,) that are ‘life-science-adjacent’, and would add a lot of value to my life science resume”
