If you’re gonna give gifts like this you gotta clear it with the parents first.
Like if you’re gonna take a niece or nephew to a r rate movie, you’d ask the parents first.
The US is def more conservative with drinking compared to Europe.
Yeah I think this is where I dropped the ball. My brothers in a bit of trouble too since he thought it was a great gift 🤣. I have to remember that everyone who married into my family does not share the same views as our blood relatives lmao.
Should’ve asked beforehand. My sister also freaked out that I let my nephew take a very small sip of whiskey, but he’s 12 so it’s clearly different scenario here. My takeaway: always confirm with the parent
I’m Hispanic lol
Uh yeah you should have checked with the parents. Plus how and where you grew up should not impact the gift you’re giving now. I grew up eating bacon; love it. But I’m also not going to give it as a graduation gift to someone in Saudi Arabia.
I agree with Deloitte 1 point. This isn’t a cultural thing but more so the societal view of underage drinking in the US (unless you count that as cultural). Don’t get me wrong it still happens but you need to clear it with the parents if the person isn’t 21 yet. I’m from Mississippi and I’ve definitely been given drinks way before 21 but a drink compared to a FULL BOTTLE lol you can see the difference there.

Yeah, I think I would have to agree with the majority here, which is to check with your sis-in-law first. I know if I did that, my sis-in-law probably wouldn’t talk to me for a long time.
Overreaction! Make jokes about this to piss her off even more 😝
Well depends on. your vantage point for this one, I was raised in a very progressive home...well travelled Europe, Asia and Middle East.
Tha said, this issue with the gift is the US law prohibits giving alcohol to a minor...in most states. Also, there are a few laws on the books that would consider this reckless endangerment....probably why the mother/parent was upset....they can get into legal trouble if someone makes a complaint.
you should've taken him to a strip club instead
