With Mck it’s like “what did they do now”
Yes this is the Gupta scandal, Google it. Bain also got caught up on it if memory serves right
Seems right

I would honestly love to work on a project that gets my company charged criminally like this. It’s the definition of highest impact and highest value work. Albeit in the wrong direction
The previous South African government did an extensive investigation and cleared McKinsey and many of the other companies now being charged. A new government suddenly reverses those decisions. Don't know the facts on the ground but context is also important for what might be motivating the government's actions.

A few thoughts that always come to mind with stories like this about any company.
1. While there’s usually factual aspects to the story, it’s still a story being written with the intent to draw clicks, shares, and subscriptions. There are always details that get glossed over or minimized in favor of creating more salacious headlines.
2. A lot of firms and companies have things being done by a small number of employees or for clients that would be incredibly problematic. This doesn’t mean that the entire firm, company, or sector is bad. It’s important to look at what steps were taken to prevent similar issues from happening again (accountability is key). And for the ones who haven’t had a negative press cycle, they’ve simply been lucky with their “risk management”.
3. I wonder how many people simply love to hate on certain firms or companies because they tried unsuccessfully to get hired by them and were passed over.
I mean a few occurrences doesn’t always mean it’s the norm. 100+ pending class actions and 10+ years of regular scandals I’d say is enough to say there’s a pattern

I totally understand certain firms like MCK getting scapegoated and they certainly have done bad activities, I’m sure, but at the end of the day it’s probably a bunch of 25 year olds who have no idea what they’re doing (like the rest of us) and are following the orders of the client, not knowing what ramifications they may have
